Water: Public Water Systems
Community water system survey
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conducted the 2006 Community Water System (CWS) Survey to obtain data to support its development and evaluation of drinking water regulations. Most of the operating characteristics of community water systems are unchanged from 1976, when the first CWS Survey was conducted. The vast majority of systems are small and privately owned, but most people are customers of large publicly owned systems. Nevertheless, there have been some important changes since the first CWS Survey. This publication reports on trends and key findings from the survey.
